The
Peer Advisor's Meeting with a First Year Student |
- The
purpose of the meeting between senior peer advisors and
first year students is to allow the first-year students
to interact with a knowledgeable upperclass student.
- The
meetings will take place in the Coleman-Morse Center on
the second floor and usually last about thirty minutes.
Each
first-year student will meet with a peer advisor at least
once during the first semester. There
is no agenda of topics to be covered in the meeting, but
rather it is the hope that whatever is on the mind of the
first-year student will be discussed. Typically,
academics and social life at Notre Dame are topics that
are discussed during these meetings. Questions about
study habits, majors, grades, what to do on weekends, homesickness,
and roommate problems are common during the half hour.
This
meeting should not be seen as a session that should "fix"
or "solve" all the issues, but rather it should open a dialogue
between the two participants. Peer
advisors should not be looked upon to solve all problems,
but rather provide possible solutions and help the first-year
student to analyze these scenarios.
- Ideally,
a relationship will grow out of this meeting and follow
up emails and meetings will occur later in the semester
as additional questions arise.
