| The
Peer Advising Program has been a part of Notre Dame's First
Year of Studies for over 30 years. This service provides
first year students the opportunity to speak with an educated
senior who can provide accurate information. All peer
advisors are part of a class, AL 495N, where they receive training
and information about interviewing skills, the First Year of
Studies curriculum, and Notre Dame in general. Peer advising
is a great opportunity to cap off your Notre Dame experience
by helping someone else start their's.
The First Year of Studies encourages current juniors to apply
to the Peer Advising Program. Application is a two step
process that begins in the second semester of your junior
year. In late January, there will be an informational
meeting for candidates where the peer advising program and
application process will be discussed. Applicants will
be asked to write a brief statement, provide a transcript,
and to interview with an academic advisor and a current peer
advisor. The Interviewing process will take place in
the month of February with notification of acceptance coming
in late March/early April.
For students who will be abroad during their second semester
of junior year, accomodations can be made for the interviews
to be done before Christmas. Students in this scenario
should contact Dr. Maureen Dawson or Mrs. Elly Brenner
as soon as possible to discuss an appropriate application
timeline.
Students interested in the Peer Advising Program should contact
Dr. Maureen Dawson or Mrs. Elly Brenner for
details about the information night and the class.
