HISTORY Constructed in 1909 and dedicated in honor of Fr. Thomas Walsh, the 6th President of the University; Final facility built on Main (God) Quad; Considered a luxurious residence hall at the time -- it was one of the first halls to feature single rooms, closets, private bathrooms, and bay windows; Originally housed 173 men, the building also included a bowling alley in the basement; Converted into a women's hall in 1972 to house Notre Dame's first female students. |
| ROOM
INFORMATION The room configurations in Walsh Hall offer many opportunities for residents. While a majority of the rooms (~80%) are balanced between singles and doubles, the remaining suites offer unique living arrangements. Suites include 3-person, 4-person, and 5-person occupancies. Some of the suites have private bathrooms. There are also a couple of triple rooms in Walsh Hall. |

Janet Stankowski, a Dominican sister from Adrian, Michigan, received her Doctor of Ministry degree from the Graduate Theological Union in South Bend, IN, in 1988. She has an M.Div. degree from Immaculate Conception Seminary in South Orange, NJ, and an M. Ed. from Siena Heights College in Adrian, MI. Janet earned her B.A. from Madonna University in Livonia, MI. Sr. Janet is the cofounder of an interfaith non-profit environmental organization, Voices for Earth Justice. She has taught school and worked with people of all ages and religious education. Committed to social justice issues, she has ministered to college students in Florida and Utah, the incarcerated in Michigan, and joined farm workers in Florida struggling for fair pay and better working conditions. Shepherding a priest-less parish in Utah, doing Katrina recovery work, assisting those living with AIDS, and planning senior outreach programs are familiar areas of service that have enriched her journey. She enjoys swimming, reading, and the Florida sunshine. |
