There are also a few other unique room configurations once you factor in connecting doors.  For example, there is a triple-double combination and one three room quint set-up.

What are the rooms like?  What is a Super Quad?  Super Double?

A Super Quad is a traditional three-room configuration with bedrooms on each side with a common room in between that has a bay window and private bathroom.  The bathroom contains a sink, shower and toilet.  There are no sinks in the side bedrooms.

The Super Double does not contain any bathroom facilities, but is slightly larger because of a bay window.

The remaining rooms are what you would typically find in any other residence halls on-campus.  Room dimensions are not specifically available, but all rooms are large and able to accommodate the designed capacity.  The Traditional Quads do not contain a sink in the middle common room.

How do I apply to live in Ryan Hall for the 2009-10 Academic Year?

Applications will be available on line at insideND or homeunderthedome.nd.edu January 28 – February 6.  You will be able to ACCEPT a 2009-10 Full Academic Year Ryan Hall Housing Application and mutually request up to 4 roommates.  Once the deadline passes, a lottery will be conducted using randomly assigned lottery numbers.  The individual with the lowest lottery number of each roommate pairing/group will pull the whole pairing/group into the Eligibility List.  For example, if 4 women are planning to live together and one gets the lottery number of 33 and the roommate’s numbers are all higher than 200 they would all get in to Ryan Hall because of the mutual roommate requests.

Once the Eligibility List has been established, another lottery will be conducted by class and assigning numbers indicating the order in which Room Picks will proceed on February 25.

Are there a certain number of slots that will be held for different groups of women?

Every effort will be made to maintain a balance of class-years within Ryan Hall just like in the other halls.  It is important not to create an overabundance of one class-year so that it does not create occupancy problems every 3-4 years.

Can women in different classes live together?

Certainly.  Rising-Seniors can live with rising-sophomores or rising-juniors and in any combination.  Class rank only influences the Room Picks after the roommate pairings/groups have been determined.  Room Picks will proceed with a lottery by class with rising-seniors picking first, rising-juniors second and rising-sophomores last.  The best number of each roommate pairing/group will be used to determine when they pick.

What if we cannot fill a room?

As Room Picks progress, changes to roommate pairings/combinations is inevitable.  Some allowance will be made to allow for “broken” rooms, but consolidation and assignments of Wait List and Transfer students will completely fill the hall by the time it opens in August.

What if I don’t make it in the lottery?

Your Ryan Hall application will be cancelled and you will have the opportunity to ACCEPT or DECLINE a 2009-10 Full Academic Year Housing Application February 9 – February 25.  You would proceed through the application process and Room Picks in your hall according to the time line established by your residence hall staff.  If space later becomes available in Ryan Hall because of cancellations, study abroad, etc. then a second-chance lottery for Ryan may be conducted in late April.

What if I am studying abroad Fall?  Spring?

If you will be studying abroad for the Fall Semester and wish to be considered to live in Ryan Hall upon your return, you should contact the ORLH at orlh@nd.edu to place your name on a waiting list for the 2010 Spring Semester.  Be sure to include the names of any preferred roommates and if any switches are possible with someone studying abroad in the Spring.  Do not ACCEPT a Ryan Hall application.  We realize that you will not be notified of final decisions until February, however, Room Picks will be conducted on February 25-26.  If your plans change for the Fall Semester after that time, you can contact ORLH to determine if any spots are available in Ryan later this spring when a “second-chance” lottery might be conducted.

Please note that if you are planning to study abroad for the 2010 Spring Semester, you may complete an application and the ORLH will cancel your assignment in December when your plans are confirmed.

What if I am currently studying abroad?

You are eligible to apply to live in Ryan Hall if you are currently studying in an ND-sponsored program and lived in a residence hall during the 2008 Fall Semester (2008 Spring semester if currently abroad for the whole year.)

What if I am currently living off-campus?

You will need to complete a Housing Wait List application and can preference Ryan.  Women on the Wait List would be assigned to any vacancies that become available over the summer.

Will we know the Rector, RAs and any other Hall Staff?

Hiring for the Hall staff will follow the regular time line and will not be known until later in the spring.

What is the amount of the Hall Tax?

When can I learn about Hall Council, Frosh-O and other hall leadership positions?

First-Year Student Orientation for the 2009 Fall Semester will be coordinated by the Hall Staff and a committee will be formed for the Fall of 2010.  Leadership elections for hall positions will be conducted in the fall at the same time as elections for First Year students.  The Office of Residence Life and Housing will advertise at a later date for employment positions such as Hall Clerk, Hall Steward and Mail Clerk.

What other things are available in the hall?

There are two lounges in each section.  One lounge is rather large and contains limited cooking facilities such as a sink and microwave.  The chapel serves as the gathering space with lofted ceiling and elegant windows.  A large laundry and vending area along with an exercise room is located in the basement.  A large main lounge, kitchen and food serving areas are located on the first floor directly inside the main entrance.  There are small kitchenettes (stove, oven and dishwasher) on the second and third floors.
