About OIS
About Office of International Studies
The Office of International Studies provides shape and substance to the belief that students develop awareness of the importance and benefit of a global perspective through international study and complementary campus activities.
The administrator of over 40 programs and over five summer programs in 20 countries, OIS is charged with ensuring that participating students come to understand their potential as leaders in a global world through exposure to international academics, research, and cultural engagement.
On campus, the office actively pursues partnerships with Notre Dame leaders whose international involvement infuses a global perspective into programs and cultural activities.
The Office of International Studies within Notre Dame International is a division of the Provost's Office at the University of Notre Dame. The function of the OIS is to serve as an intermediary between the various off-campus programs and the University at large.

An International Tradition
Internationalism at the University of Notre Dame is a strength rooted in tradition.
Founded in 1842 by Father Edward Sorin, a French priest, the University echoes the scholarly and architectural traditions of Europe and its great institutions of higher learning.
Notre Dame's ascent to national prominence itself is an international story related to the vast migration of European Catholics in the late 19th and 20th centuries, and to its affiliation with the Congregation of Holy Cross, an order deeply engaged in helping the neediest throughout the world.
From medical internships with doctors in Puebla, Mexico to programs in Chile and Uganda that focus on poverty and development, Notre Dame's international studies programs are specifically designed to reflect Notre Dame's values of faith, learning and community.
