St. Andrews Program
St. Andrews was founded around 1411 and bears the distinction of being Scotland’s oldest and most prestigious university, ranking consistently among Britain’s top five universities. St. Andrews is located on Starting in the spring semester of 2010-2011, up to six Notre Dame students will have the opportunity to study at St. Andrews where they not only will attend the same classes, but also live and eat in the same residence halls, and participate in the same social cultural, athletic sporting and academic extracurricular activities as their Scottish counterparts. The University of St. Andrews’ curriculum is based on a modular system which is a combination of lectures and tutorials. Students generally enroll in two or three modules for a combination of 60 credits, which transfers as 15 ND credits. St. Andrews is renowned for its academic strength in numerous disciplines, but is particularly distinguished in Medieval Studies. This program is open to students with a major, minor, or concentration in Medieval Studies, or be in the process of declaring their major or minor in Medieval Studies. Students will have to have Application Procedure
Students will apply in the fall semester of their sophomore year to study at St. Andrews in the spring semester of their junior year. Meetings for interested students are held in the fall. Qualified students are selected for interview based on applications and participants are chosen by a selection committee for International Programs. Application deadline: November 15. Selections are announced in early February-March of the year preceeding participation. Additional Travel Information
This program also will have a required short UK curricular trip, led by a Notre Dame medievalist, during the Easter break. Program Costs: The cost of the international portion of the group flight to an international airport in Scotland is included in the program cost. Students will pay for the domestic portion of their flight, which can also be arranged by Anthony Travel, the travel agent on campus. There is an additional $750 study abroad fee added to the normal ND tuition, room and board for any student in a study abroad program. HTH Study Abroad insurance is also included in the cost of the program. This insurance is for emergency situations and will cover a student during the specified dates from the beginning of the academic portion of the program until the day after finals. Academic Calendar:
Accommodations: Student live on campus in one of six residence halls approved for the ND St. Andrews Program. The Locations approved are: Andrew Melville Hall, John Burnet Hall (Atholl), McIntosh Hall (Chattan), St. Salvator's Hall, and University Hall.
