St. Andrews Program

St. Andrews was founded around 1411 and bears the distinction of being Scotland’s oldest and most prestigious university, ranking consistently among Britain’s top five universities.  St. Andrews is located on the east coast of Scotland overlooking the North Sea about 45 miles from Edinburgh.  Today it is one of the few universities still fully integrated with its medieval city, where students and scholars from around the world experience the latest in teaching and research in the midst of medieval ruins, centuries-old stone houses, and the world’s most famous golf course.  There are approximately 6, 000 students of which 30% are from outside of the UK.  Approximately 20% of the students are from North America.

Starting in the spring semester of 2010-2011, up to six Notre Dame students will have the opportunity to study at St. Andrews where they not only will attend the same classes, but also live and eat in the same residence halls, and participate in the same social cultural, athletic sporting and academic extracurricular activities as their Scottish counterparts.

The University of St. Andrews’ curriculum is based on a modular system which is a combination of lectures and tutorials.  Students generally enroll in two or three modules for a combination of 60 credits, which transfers as 15 ND credits. A complete course listing by subject area can be found at the prospective student website: http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/subjects/. To locate specific courses, pick a subject area from the list, choose "undergraduates" from the link on the left and then "modules". The module link is a link to the courses description.
