The main forum for students who have returned to campus is the London
Program Student Advisory Council (LPSAC). The LPSAC is made up of London
Program students who have returned to campus and who wish to promote
the interest of London Program students in various ways:
- The LPSAC organizes a variety of activities and social events throughout
the year that are intended to help returned students keep in contact
with the new friends they made in London. The LPSAC also serves as a convenient forum through which returned
students can pass on useful advice to students preparing to go to
London. For instance, returned students might want to tell future
students about new places they've discovered in London or new things
that students should see when in Britain or on the continent. Or returned
students may have useful practical advice to offer on day-to-day life
in London. Similarly, students preparing to go to London are encouraged
to contact members of the LPSAC with any questions they may have about
the London Program.
- The LPSAC is also a useful forum through which students can make
suggestions for developing the London Program so that it continues
to serve the needs of its students in the best possible fashion. For
example, is there any additional information that students might need
before going to London? Can this information be disseminated any more
efficiently? Does information on this website need updating or expanding?
In general, we welcome suggestions on ways we can improve the Program
for future students.
On their return to campus, London Program students will receive an
invitation to become a member of the LPSAC. Those wishing to do so are
invited to provide a brief statement explaining why they think they
would be a particularly effective member and indicate topics they think
the LPSAC should consider. The LPSAC is currently made up of the following student members:
Fall 2008
(Serving for three semesters, with graduation in May 2010)
Spring 2009
(Serving for two semesters, with graduation in May 2010)
The LPSAC provides an excellent way for returned students to re-integrate
themselves into campus life, and the London Program Office on campus
is always ready to give individual students more personal assistance.
Students experiencing further difficulties with returning to campus
may wish to contact the University
Counseling Center. The winning images from the Spring 2008 students' photographic competition can be found here.
London Program students may also wish to explore ways of returning
to the UK. Our Fellowships
and Scholarships page gives further details of grant awarding bodies
(both on campus and elsewhere) that provide funding for overseas research
travel. Students may also wish to contact the Office
of Undergraduate and Post-Baccalaureate Fellowships, which gives
information on scholarships such as the National Science Foundation
(NSF), Rhodes, Marshall, Goldwater, Fulbright, Truman and Gates fellowships,
which provide for travel to the UK.
