Transportation and Travel

Students arrange their own transportation to Cairo with assistance from Anthony Travel. All individuals must have a passport from their country of citizenship to travel overseas. A passport should be valid for at least six months after your planned return. For entry to Egypt, a student must obtain a tourist visa from the Egyptian consulate in their area. After registering at AUC, the student will receive instructions on how to obtain a student visa. AUC is not responsible for the denial of a visa by the Egyptian government. All male students whose parents are Egyptian must check at an Egyptian consulate about their military status in Egypt before planning to enter the country.

Housing and Meals

All Notre Dame Students are required to live in at least a double room (no singles are allowed) in AUC sponsored housing, and will reside in one of the residences on the new campus, or in the dormitories in Zamalek near downtown Cairo. There is no program for home stays with Egyptian families since it is not the custom for an Egyptian family to invite an unknown foreign student to live in their home.  The rules and regulations governing dormitory life reflect the conservative lifestyle in Egypt.  Men and women will be housed in separate residences.  While students may express a housing location preference (New Cairo campus or Zamalek) in their housing application, there can be no guarantees where one will be assigned. Under no circumstances will students be allowed to reside in apartments not sponsored by AUC.

Egyptian Statue

Students may eat their meals in restaurants at the new AUC food court or at the AUC cafeterias. Meals are paid for as purchased; there is no prepaid meal plan. Many extra-curricular clubs, sports, student-sponsored programs and opportunities for travel are available throughout the year.

More information about the new campus facilities will be provided as they become available.
