Given current health concerns and international tensions, we know that parents are concerned both about their students' safety and about their distance from home at a time like this. SAFETY RESOURCES

The following resources were highlighted at the November 2, 2009, Safety & Security Meeting:

ND-ABROAD (Across Borders – Respecting Origins – Affirming Dignity) is a student initiative to promote security and dignity abroad through education in true cultural sensitivity.  In “respecting origins,” students must not only learn to be responsive to a host culture’s traditions and beliefs, but also remember to esteem and protect their own values as well.  Visit http://www.nd.edu/~ndabroad/.

EMBASSY REGISTRATION:  The Office of International Studies requires all students to register with the State Department at https://travelregistration.state.gov so that the US Embassy or Consulate abroad can assist or communicate with the student in time of need.

OVERSEAS SECURITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE (OSAC): The Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) is a Federal Advisory Committee with a U.S. Government Charter to promote security cooperation between American business and private sector interests worldwide and the U.S. Department of State.  The web site provides country-specific safety news and information.  Visit http://www.osac.gov/.
