Time after time, members of the President’s Circle have allowed the
University to turn
aspiration into action.”
– Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., Notre Dame President

January 23, 2008

Dear Study Abroad Participant,

If you are on financial aid and you demonstrate financial need as identified by the Office of Financial Aid, you are eligible to participate in a program launched by President John Jenkins this year, the “President’s Circle Allocation.”  Thanks to the generosity of University benefactors, this fund provides support for Notre Dame’s central mission and aspirations.

I would like to invite eliglble students to participate in this special program. The President's Circle Fund can provide a supplement for you to enjoy cultural activities in your host country. Funds may be used to defray expenses for any of the following:

  • Field trips organized by your host institution or director for which students are charged
  • Visits for museums, monuments, writers’ homes, or other sites of cultural interest
  • Theatre, concert, or opera tickets
  • Pilgrimages
  • Travel expenses (transportation and lodging) to attend cultural events in another city. Students will not be reimbused for meals.
  • Pre-departure expenses (visas, inoculations), etc.
  • Residence permit expenses

Reimbursement will be based on receipts for expenses listed above or activities within your host country. Travel receipts include transportation, entrances to museums, historical sites, or cultural events.  You must return a signed Expense Report that lists your activities with your receipts.

Eligible students will receive a email invitation to apply that will indicate the amount of support you may receive.  Please contact your program manager at Notre Dame if you have specific questions.

Enjoy and bon voyage!

Cordially,

Julia V. Douthwaite,
Assistant Provost for International Studies
