Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to announce the following faculty will be teaching or lecturing abroad in the months ahead.  For more information on how YOU may be involved in any of these or other OIS programs, please consult the OIS website http://www.nd.edu/~ois/ and click on SPECIAL OPPORTUNITIES ABROAD. 
 
A.  LONDON, ENGLAND
1.  London Program

  • Paul Bradshaw (Director, London Program, THEO) will teach "Christianity in Britain - Past & Present" (fall and spring)
  • Laura Holt (Deputy Director, London Program, THEO) will teach "Case Studies in the Development of Doctrine" (fall and spring)
  • Cornelius O'Boyle (Assoc. Director, London Program) will teach "Medical Practice in the UK" (fall), "Crime and Punishment in Victorian London" (spring), "Introduction to London Theatre" and the "London Honors Seminar" (fall and spring)
  • Randall Zachman (THEO) will teach "Why did God become Human?" and "English Spirituality through the Ages" (fall)
  • Hafiz Atassi (AME) will teach "Differential Equations" and an Engineering elective course (fall)
  • Clark Power (PLS) will teach the PLS "Great Books Seminar IV" (spring)
  • Ann Power (SOC) will teach "Diversity, Race and Poverty in Britain and the USA" (spring)
  • Joseph.P.Guiltinan (MARK) will teach "Pricing Strategies" (spring)

 

2.  London Summer Program

  • Thomas Swartz (ECON) will direct the Summer London Program

 

3.  London Summer Engineering Program (sponsored by ENGR)

  • John Brauer (ENGR, Director, London Summer Engineering Program) will co-teach with Robert Dunn (ENGR) EG "Integrated Engineering and Business Practice"
  • Stephen Batill (AME) and Robert Nelson (AME) will co-teach "Risk and Failure in Engineering Systems"


 
B.  ANGERS, FRANCE
Angers Program

  • Maureen Boulton (Director, Angers Program, ROLL) will teach ROFR "Literature of Court and Castle”
  • D’Arcy J. Boulton (Associate Director, Angers Program, HIST, Med.Inst.) will teach HIST  “Castles and Courts”


 
C.  DUBLIN, IRELAND
Dublin Program

  • Luke Gibbons (ENG, Keough Inst.) will teach “Framing Ireland, Irish Film & Literature”
  • Seamus Deane (ENG, Keough Inst.) tba


 
D.  FREMANTLE, AUSTRALIA
A faculty member from MCOB will be teaching in the Fremantle program in Fall 2006.  TBA


 
E.  SUMMER PROGRAMS

1.  Seminars arranged via IES

  • MILAN, ITALY:  Alessia Blad (ROLL), will teach "Intermediate Italian I, Discovering Leonardo da Vinci in Milano"
  • QUITO, ECUADOR:  Michael Coppedge (POLSCI) will teach "Politics of Andean Countries"
  • PARIS, FRANCE:  Thomas Kselman (HIST) will teach "History of Paris"

2.  Seminar at the Ortega y Gasset Foundation

  • TOLEDO, SPAIN:  Carlos Jerez-Farran (ROLL) will teach "El cine de Aldomovar y la posmodernidad en Espana / The Films of Almodovar and Postmodernism in Spain"

3.  Seminar at the Universidad de las Americas

  • PUEBLA, MEXICO:  David Kirkner (CEGEOS) will teach "Introduction to Structural Engineering"

4.  Seminar developed in conjunction with the Center for Social Concerns:

  • TANGZHAI (Zhejiang Province), CHINA:  Jonathan Noble (EALL) will teach a service-learning seminar, "To Serve an Ancient Village in China:  Historical Preservation, Religious Life, and Teaching English"


 
F.  OTHER INTERNATIONAL FACULTY NEWS

1.  Report on BOLOGNA FACULTY EXCHANGE

In October 2005, John Welle (ROLL) was Notre Dame's inaugural exchange professor in the Bologna Consortium Studies Program at the University of Bologna.  He delivered a lecture in the Department of Art, Music and Spectacle, met with students from Notre Dame and other universities in the program, conducted his own research, discussed programmatic issues with Italian colleagues, and was an invited participant at an international conference, "Renzo Renzi: Un intellettuale disarmato" at the Cineteca of the City of Bologna. 
 
2.  Report on INNSRUCK FACULTY EXCHANGE

For academic year 2005-2006, three faculty members, one from the Law School and two from Arts and Letters, were selected for short-term visiting lecture positions under the Friendship Agreement between Notre Dame and University of Innsbruck in Austria. 

  • Joseph Bauer (LAW) will lecture in the areas of “American Civil Procedure; Antitrust; Copyrights; and Trademarks”
  • Jill Godmilow (FTT) will give a lecture on “ The Anti-Documentary’s Battle to Represent Reality”
  • Rodney Hero (POLSCI) will give a lecture provisionally entitled:  “Immigration and the Evolving American Welfare State”
