Message from the Assistant Provost

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to pass along some news regarding the ND faculty who will assume teaching and lecture opportunities at our programs abroad in 2007-08.  For more information on these programs and opportunities, please consult the OIS website:  http://www.nd.edu/~ois/

ND Faculty Involved with International Study during 2007-08

1.  Angers, France Program:  For the 2007-2009 academic years, Prof. Odette Menyard (ROLL) will serve as Director of the Angers Program.  On top of her duties managing the program at the Universit atholique de l'Ouest, Prof. Menyard will teach one course each year.  In Spring 2008, she will teach a course in ROFR, "Au fil des ans et de la Loire."
 
2.  Central European Studies Program in Innsbruck, Austria:  UIBK--ND Short Term Visiting Lecturer Exchange

a.  Notre Dame faculty who will be lecturing in Innsbruck in Spring 2007:

3.  Fremantle, Australia Program:  In Fall 2007, Prof. Sarv Devaraj (MCOB-- MAN) will serve as the Mendoza College faculty in residence at the University of Notre Dame Australia.  He will teach "Operations Management."
 
4.  London, England Undergraduate Program:

Fall 2007:

- Prof. Carolyn Nordstrom (ANTHRO) will teach " Anthropology of War and Peace: A UK Perspective" and "Crime and Corruption:  UK and the World"

- Prof. Eric Jumper (ENGR-AME) will teach "Differential Equations, Vibrations and Control," and "Chemical Rocket Propulsion."

- Prof. Paul Bradshaw (Director) will teach "Christianity in Britain, Past and Present."

- Prof. Laura Holt (Deputy Director) will teach "Case Studies in the Development of Christian Doctrine."

- Prof. Cornelius O'Boyle (Associate Director) will teach "Introduction to London Theatre," "London Honors Seminar," and "Medical Policy and Practice
in the UK."

Spring 2008:

- Prof. Henry Weinfield (PLS) will teach a section of PLS Great Books Seminar IV and "Shakespeare and Milton."

- Prof. Shane Corwin (MOCB-FIN) will teach "Investment Theory."

- Prof. Paul Bradshaw (Director) will teach "Christianity in Britain, Past and Present."

- Prof. Laura Holt (Deputy Director) will teach "Case Studies in the Development of Christian Doctrine."

- Prof. Cornelius O'Boyle (Associate Director) will teach "Introduction to London Theatre," "London Honors Seminar," and "History of Science and
Technology in Britain, 1800-2000."


  5.  Dublin, Ireland Program

Fall 2007 & Spring 2008:  Prof. Kevin Whelan (Director) will teach "Introduction to Ireland"

Fall 2007:  Prof. Luke Gibbons (ENG) will teach "Framing Ireland"

- Milan, Italy.  Prof. Alessia Blad (ROLL) will teach ROIT 24201, "Intermediate Italian I," and ROIT 24202, "Intermediate Italian II"

- Rome, Italy.  Prof. C.W. Westfall (ARCH) will teach ARCH 34223, "Seeing Power in Rome: Exploring the Pagan, Christian, and Modern City"

- Vienna, Austria.  Prof. Albert Wimmer (GERM) will teach GE 34850, "German History through Literature: 800 - 1806"

7.  Personal note

Thanks to a fellowship from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, I will be on sabbatical from January – December 2007.  During this period I will split my time between South Bend and Paris (March – May), working on A Literary History of the French Revolution.  I am pleased to announce that Professor Tony Messina (Political Science) will serve as Acting Assistant Provost in my absence.  Tony brings much administrative experience, energy and wisdom to the position, and we are grateful for his service to the Office of International Studies.
