      Drew Brees, through gutsy leadership and stellar play, leads his Boilermakers into the Rose Bowl for the first time since 1967. Brees passed for over 3,000 yards and 24 touchdowns this season, and added over 500 yards and five more touchdowns on the ground. Numbers aside, he led comebacks over Michigan, Northwestern, and Ohio State en route to winning the Big Ten Championship.

      Nebraska vs. Northwestern: The Alamo Bowl offers what could be the most intriguing matchup of the non-BCS bowls. Nebraska, used to playing for the national championship in a more prominent bowl, faces a Northwestern team that literally came out of nowhere. Nebraska's offense should score at will all day. Eric Crouch has carried his team all year, and should continue against a markedly weak Northwestern defense. Don't count out Northwestern's offense. Who could forget the best game of the year: the Wildcats' 54-51 thriller over Michigan? Zac Kustok and Damien Anderson will make this game worth watching.
    • Tailbacks form triple threat (Observer Staff Report )
      Oregon State gets the nod on the ground with a College Coaches Association All-American in junior Ken Simonton. The 5-foot-8 tailback is the only running back in PAC-10 history to rush for 1,000 yards in his freshman, sophomore and junior seasons. Simonton is approaching 1,500 yards and has 18 touchdowns. Simonton's backup, Patrick McCall, has rushed for nearly as many yards as Jones, logging 633 yards and seven touchdowns.
