Tailbacks form triple threat
Observer Staff Report

Oregon State gets the nod on the ground with a College Coaches Association All-American in junior Ken Simonton. The 5-foot-8 tailback is the only running back in PAC-10 history to rush for 1,000 yards in his freshman, sophomore and junior seasons. Simonton is approaching 1,500 yards and has 18 touchdowns. Simonton's backup, Patrick McCall, has rushed for nearly as many yards as Jones, logging 633 yards and seven touchdowns.

Bob Davie plans to make use of his talented trio of tailbacks, dividing carries between sophomore Julius Jones and juniors Tony Fisher and Terrance Howard. All three have notched at least four touchdowns, and run for better than four yards per carry. Jones, who leads the Irish with 657 yards rushing, has been hampered by injuries.
