Junior Jennifer Sharron and sophomore Jarrah Myers led Notre Dame in competition this weekend as they were named to the Morning News Invit-ational all-tournament team.

The Irish, now 7-4 overall, finished 3-3 over the weekend with wins over Virginia and Arkansas.

Myers hit .316 from the plate (6-for-19) with three runs, four RBIs and a home run to start the Irish scoring in a 6-1 win against Virginia.

Sharron pitched to a 1-1 record on the mound. She threw 12 strikeouts in pitching nine innings of the 10-inning loss to Missouri and earned a 1-0 shutout against Virginia while allowing just two hits. She also went 5-14 at the plate to grab a .367 average for the weekend while adding an RBI and a double.

Notre Dame started the weekend with two one-run losses in a double-header with Missouri.

The Tigers grabbed a 5-4 win in game one. Down 1-0 going into the seventh with two outs, the Irish scored four runs to take the lead before Missouri retaliated with three to extend the game. Still 4-4 in the bottom of the 10th, the Tigers scored for the win on a sacrifice fly.

In game two action the Irish took an early lead with two runs on RBI doubles by Myers and Danielle Klayman. Sharron doubled in the third to drive in Jennifer Kriech and give Notre Dame a 3-0 lead. Missouri took over in the fourth and fifth with two runs each inning for the 4-3 win.

Notre Dame suffered its third loss in a row as it fell to Arkansas in game one on Saturday.

The Lady Razorbacks scored two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings for the 4-0 lead before the Irish fought back in the bottom of the sixth. Kriech, who finished 3-for-3 at the plate, doubled and scored on a single by Melanie Alkire. Freshman Andrea Loman tripled to drive in Alkire.

But it was too little and too late. Sharron picked up her first loss this season as the Irish fell 4-2.

With an 0-3 record for the weekend, Notre Dame softball decided it was time to fight back as it picked up its first win with a 2-1 victory over Arkansas in game two.

Alkire doubled to drive in a run in the first before Loman doubled and scored to give the Irish a 2-0 lead. Arkansas finally retaliated in the seventh by scoring one. With two outs, the tying run on third and the winning run on first, sophomore pitcher Michelle Moshel shut down Arkansas with a strikeout to give Notre Dame the win. Moshel totaled 10 strikeouts while allowing just three hits for her career best.

Junior Lizzy Lemire led Notre Dame in game one action on Sunday as the Irish picked up a 1-0 win over the Virginia Cavaliers. Scoreless at the top of the seventh, Lemire, who finished 3-for-3 with three of Notre Dame's five hits, tripled before scoring on a pitching error for the Irish win. Sharron allowed just two hits while striking out eight to improve to 4-1 this season.

Notre Dame ended the tournament action with a 6-1 win in game two against Virginia. Myers finished 2-for-3 offensively with two runs, three RBIs and a solo home run in the first to kick off the Irish. Alkire grabbed her first win of the season allowing just two hits and one run.

Notre Dame will continue play this weekend as it competes against Tennessee, Virginia Tech and Kentucky in the Stateline University Classic at Bristol, Tenn.
