FOOTBALL: Receiver commits to Irish
By ANDREW SOUKUP
Associate Sports Editor

Notre Dame rounded out its 18-member recruiting class early this morning when wide receiver prospect Rhema McKnight faxed his letter of intent to the Irish football offices.

McKnight planned on announcing his decision late Wednesday night. While rumors slowly trickled around the Internet that the California prospect had verbally committed to the Irish, he had yet to sign a binding letter of intent.

Apparently, the delay occured because McKnight had to play in a basketball game Wednesday and was unable to fax his letter to the Irish before his game. Notre Dame received McKnight's letter early this morning.

McKnight, the No. 10 wide receiver prospect according to analyst Tom Lemming picked the Irish over UCLA, Washington, Oregon and Florida.

According to ESPN.com recruiting analyst Tom Lemming, McKnight is the tenth-best receiver prospect in the nation. Insiders.com rates McKnight as the top receiver on the West Coast.

The speedy 6-foot-2, 188 pound wide receiver from La Palma Kennedy High School in California rushed for over 1,000 yards and recorded over 500 receiving yards. He also scored 19 touchdowns.

McKnight is the second wide receiver prospect to commit to the Class of 2006. 6-foot-5 Maurice Stovall, considered one of the top 20 players in the nation, signed with the Irish yesterday.
