The Notre Dame mens swimming and diving team hits the road this weekend to take on Cleveland State today and St. Bonaventure Saturday.
The Irish dropped a tough meet to Northwestern 172-126 last weekend, losing their last home dual meet of the season. However, diver Andy Maggio and junior Matt Obringer turned in strong performances. Maggio won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. Obringer finished first in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 1 minute, 41.5 seconds.
Sophomores Frank Krakowski and Drew Pittman touched first and second in the 50-yard freestyle in times of 21.37 and 21.86, respectively. Obringer, Krakowski, junior J.R. Teddy and freshman Tim Randolph combined to win the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:07.93 for the Irish.
Cleveland State (8-2) is coming off a decisive victory over Louisville and St. Louis University. Notre Dame also defeated both of those teams in the Notre Dame Invitational in early December.
The Vikings have lost only twice this season, to Eastern Michigan and Ohio State. They compete in the Horizon Conference, along with St. Bonaventure.
For Cleveland State, Warren Vickers is a standout swimmer in the 100- and 200-meter freestyle events. He was recently named the Horizon Conference's swimmer of the week.
The Bonnies (5-4) split their dual meets last weekend with a 158-81 victory against Binghamton and lost 175-119 to Oakland, who the Irish will face next weekend.
Despite dropping three of their four dual meets, the Irish have seen consistently strong performances from their relay teams.
Notre Dame faces the Vikings of Cleveland State today at 4 p.m.
