First Circular

Happy New Year!

This is the first circular for CGS-12, the 12th international Conference on Capture Gamma-Ray Spectroscopy and Related Topics, to be held from September 4-9, 2005 at the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana (USA). The University of Notre Dame, founded in 1842 by a priest of the Congregation of Holy Cross, is an independent, national Catholic university located in a rather picturesque part of Indiana adjacent to the city of South Bend and approximately 90 miles southeast of Chicago.

This is the 12th in a series of meetings held previously at in Pruhonice near Prague, Czech Republic (2002); Santa Fe, USA (1999); Budapest, Hungary (1996); Fribourg, Switzerland (1993); Asilomar, USA (1990); Leuven, Belgium (1987); Knoxville, USA (1984); Grenoble, France (1981); Brookhaven, USA (1978); Petten, the Netherlands (1974); and Studsvik, Sweden (1969).

The conference theme has broadened in time and includes current topics in Nuclear Structure, Nuclear Symmetries, Nuclear Reactions with stable as well as radioactive ion beams, Nuclear Astrophysics, Tools of Nuclear Science from instrumentation to facilities, as well as Applications of Nuclear Science from AMS to nuclear energy.

The sessions of the conference will begin on Monday morning (Sept. 5) and end by the end of day on Friday evening (Sept. 9). There will be a welcoming reception in the evening of Sunday Sept. 4, the conference banquet will take place on Wednesday Sept. 7 aboard a ship and will include an architectural tour of the city of Chicago from the Chicago River. Friday evening, there will a performance of music, poetry and stories by the Ensemble Galilei with projected images from the Hubble Space Telescope.

The proceedings of the conference will be published and we are in the midst of negotiations with various publishers. The manuscripts will be collected at the registration. A large percentage of invited talks will be selected from the submitted abstracts.
