Fellows will meet five days a week, approximately 8 hours a day (except on field trip days which generally exceed a normal work-day), for 7 weeks:


  1. a)Coursework:  Training in human osteology will include instruction in skeletal biology, biomechanics, and forensics though lecture/laboratory activities.

  1. c)Lecture Series:   Scholars will regularly speak to the summer theme. This will facilitate close interaction with a respected scholar in a relaxed setting.

  2. d)Ethics Component: Ethical scientific conduct, science as a way of knowing, the politics of excavation, and repatriation will be discussed in a series of evening dinners with guest speakers.

  3. e)Professional Development: A 2-day workshop will be offered for students planning on graduate study. Also, instruction will be provided in the use of Powerpoint and advanced features in Excel.

  1. b)Research Project Students will then select a topic, in groups of two, from a list of possible research areas.  A guest scientist will aid in teaching the methods/theories for specific projects.  At the end of the course, each group will give a presentation of their findings.
