Fellows will meet five days a week, approximately 8 hours a day (except on field trip days which generally exceed a normal work-day), for 7 weeks:


  1. a)Coursework:  Training in human osteology will include instruction in skeletal biology, biomechanics, and forensics though lecture/laboratory activities.

COURSE CONTENT
  1. c)Lecture Series:  Scholars will regularly speak to the summer theme. This will facilitate close interaction with a respected scholar in a relaxed setting.

  2. d)Ethics Component: Ethical scientific conduct, science as a way of knowing, the politics of excavation, and repatriation will be discussed in a series of evening dinners with guest speakers.

  3. e)Professional Development: A 2-day workshop will be offered for students planning on graduate study. Also, instruction will be provided in the use of Powerpoint and advanced features in Excel.

  1. b)Research Project:   Students will then select a topic, in groups of two, from a list of possible research areas.  A guest scientist will aid in teaching the methods/theories for specific projects.  At the end of the course, each group will give a presentation of their findings.
