One of our current
studies examines how different types of arithmetic practice affect
children's understanding of math. The study provides 7- and 8-year
old children with a unique opportunity to practice math one-on-one
with a trained tutor from Notre Dame. Children participate in
four 30-minute arithmetic practice sessions with the tutor. The
sessions are scheduled one week apart.
The study is funded
by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, Institute of
Education Sciences, so the practice sessions are offered free
of charge to all children who participate. Parents receive a small
payment to cover the costs associated with bringing their children
to the lab, and children receive a small gift after each session.
