Director

Daniel Bayless holds the Master of Music degree in Organ Performance and Literature from the University of Notre Dame and the Bachelor of Music degree in Church Music and Organ Performance from the University of Kansas. He has studied organ, harpsichord, and carillon with esteemed teachers including Craig Cramer, David Dahl, Darlene Catello, Susan Marchant, Michael Bauer, Barbara J. Brown, and Elizabeth Berghout. Daniel won first prize in the collegiate division of the 2002 Greater Kansas City AGO Competition and was a finalist in the 2001 Ottumwa National Undergraduate Organ Competition.

Daniel has served churches in Kansas, Indiana, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. He is passionate about not only instrumental music, but also vocal, having performed with the University of Kansas Oread Consort, Chamber Choir, and Collegium Musicum under the direction of Simon Carrington, and the University of Notre Dame Basilica Schola. He has played recitals and served as guest organist for services and performances throughout the eastern part of the country. Daniel may be heard on the recording Ave Maria: Music in Honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary singing with the Basilica Schola and the Notre Dame Liturgical Choir. He is a member of the American Guild of Organists, the Royal School of Church Music, Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honor Society, the National Association of Pastoral Musicians, and serves on NPM's Standing Committee for Organists to promote the use of the pipe organ in church, set and uphold standards for organist certification and training, and to assist organists of all levels to uphold their baptismal call through their ministry as musicians.

Assistant Director

Gail Walton has held the position of Director of Music at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at the University of Notre Dame since 1988.

Dr. Walton holds degrees from Westminster Choir College and the Eastman School of Music, where she earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Organ Performance. The Eastman School also awarded her the prestigious Performer's Certificate in Organ. She has studied with David Craighead, Russell Saunders, William Hays and Andre Marchal.

Dr. Walton has performed throughout the Midwestern United States and in the summer of 1991 played concerts in the German cities of Bonn, Heidenheim, Mainz and Rottenburg/Neckar. In the summer of 1995 she took the Notre Dame Liturgical Choir on a tour of Italy, including appearances in Florence, Milan, Assisi and Rome.

Dr. Walton has taught organ at Goshen College since 1986, and serves as director of the University of Notre Dame Liturgical Choir and the Basilica Schola. She is married to the organist Craig Cramer, with whom she frequently plays duo recitals.
