Burglary of Unlocked Residence Hall Room

Notre Dame Security Police (NDSP) is investigating a burglary of an unlocked residence hall room at Cavanaugh Hall. At about 10 a.m. Friday, April 25, a student reported seeing a man in Cavanaugh Hall. According to the student, the man was seen again several minutes later but this time he was carrying a book bag with computers inside the bag. The man was last seen entering the south stairs. Three students reported loss of property from their unlocked room including 3 lap top computers and a digital camera.

The suspect is described as a male black, about 5'8", skinny build, unshaven or scraggly beard, and wearing a black shirt and baggy jeans. According to witnesses, the man was older than student age.

NDSP recommends the following:
-Lock your office or residence room whenever you are away-even if you are gone for a just a few moments.
-Residence rooms should be locked when you sleep.
-Do not let people not to known to you into residence halls.
-Keep valuables secured, be cognizant of your surroundings
-Contact NDSP right away regarding suspicious activity and/or behavior by calling 9-1-1 from any campus phone or by dialing 574-631-5555 from your cellular telephone.
-Keep in mind that some criminals may target students at the end of the term and during the time you prepare to move out of residence halls. Keep track of your valuables and lock your room to prevent theft. Do not leave property unsecured and unattended.

Sexual Assault Reported On Campus

NDSP is investigating a sexual assault reported by a Notre Dame student on April 16, 2008. The student reported to NDSP that the assault, committed by an acquaintance, occurred on campus April 12, 2008.

Sex Assault Reported

On Sunday afternoon, a student reported to NDSP that she was assaulted while walking near Pasquerilla and Siegfried Halls at approximately 2 a.m. Sunday morning, March 30, 2008. The student told NDSP that the suspect followed her and then walked with her from the west quad toward the north quad. The student reports that as they walked, the suspect engaged her in conversation and asked her questions. The student reports she declined the suspect's offer to socialize and refused to give him her telephone number. The student reported that when they were near the northwest corner of Siegfried Hall, the suspect grabbed her by the hair, held her against the wall and fondled her. The suspect fled west on foot after the student told him that she was calling NDSP. After the assault, the student went to her residence hall.

The suspect in this assault was described to NDSP as a male white, college age, about 6' 2" tall, medium build and wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt with "Notre Dame" imprinted on the front.

Sexual Assault Reported On Campus

NDSP is investigating a sexual assault reported by a Notre Dame student. The student reported that the assault was committed by a male acquaintance that was an invited guest in the students residence hall room. The assault occurred on March 21, 2008. No further information was provided to NDSP about the suspect.

Burglary From Unlocked Rooms

Notre Dame Security Police is investigating two burglaries to unlocked residence hall rooms at Lyons Hall. Sometime between about 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on March 27 a person(s) entered two unlocked rooms and took property including three lap top computers and a wallet.

NDSP recommends that you lock your residence room or office whenever you are away even if you are gone for just a few moments. Residence rooms should be locked when you sleep. January 18, 2008

Assault Reported

On Thursday, January 17, 2007 at about 7:30 p.m. a student reported to NDSP that she was walking in a parking lot at Fisher O'Hara Grace Apartments along Bulla Road at about 6:40 p.m. when she was approached by a man walking behind her. The student reports the man asked her questions. The student reported that the man then took hold of her arm. According to the student, the man then struck her in the face. The student fell to the ground and reports that she was kicked by the man. The man fled in a vehicle. The man was possibly accompanied by two other people. After the assault, the student went to a friend's apartment. After a time, the student went to a residence hall and NDSP was contacted.

The suspect in this assault was described to NDSP as male black about 20-25 years old, about 5'10" to 6' tall, stocky build, and wearing a black Puma brand jacket. No description was given of the people who accompanied the suspect.

Campus Crime Alert Burglary and Theft

Notre Dame Security Police is investigating two burglaries to unlocked residence hall rooms at Sorin Hall. Sometime between 10 p.m. on Saturday, November 17 and 1 a.m. Sunday, November 18 a person(s) entered two unlocked rooms and took property.

NDSP is also investigating a recent series of thefts of wallets and a purse in areas near the campus perimeter. In all instances the property stolen was either in an unsecured vehicle or an unsecured area of a building. Of the four thefts that occurred from November 12 through November 15, one occurred at the west end of campus, one at the southeast part of campus, one at the east part of campus, and one at the north part of campus. All have occurred adjacent to or close to roadways. In all instances the time of occurrence was less than one hour. In two cases, the property was unattended for just a few minutes.

NDSP recommends that you lock your office or residence room whenever you are away even if you are gone for just a few moments. Residence rooms should be locked when you sleep. September 21, 2007

Assault Reported

On Friday, September 21, at about 1:15 a.m. a student told NDSP that she was waiting outside the southeast door of Keenan Hall at about 12 midnight when she was approached by 6 student-age males leaving the hall. The student reported that the men approached her and engaged in conversation. According to the student, the men offered to admit her into the hall on the southwest side of the building. The student and men walked between Zahm and Keenan where the student reports she was pushed to the ground by one of the men in the group. According to the student, one of the men threatened her with a knife and another man kicked her. The student reported that she was not injured. After the assault, the student reports she contacted a friend and after a time, she returned to her residence hall and contacted authorities.

The suspects were described to NDSP as college-age male whites.

Forcible Fondling Reported

NDSP is investigating a forcible fondling sex offense that happened at about 8:15 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, 2007 on Saint Mary's Road near Fatima House.

A Saint Mary's student reported to NDSP that she was walking toward the Grotto from SR933 with a friend when they were approached by a man on roller blades. The man touched the student inappropriately as he passed by. The student was not injured.

The suspect was described to NDSP as a college-age, male white, skinny build, wearing a blue t-shirt and black jeans, black roller blades, and a black hat with a white t-shirt pulled over his head.

Thefts from Unlocked Rooms

Recently a number of thefts from unlocked residence hall rooms have been reported to NDSP. The suspect(s) may have entered while the residents were asleep. Cash was taken from the students' rooms. NDSP strongly recommends that you lock your room door whenever you are asleep or away. Do not leave valuables unattended-even if you're away for just a few minutes. Do not prop open exterior doors of residence halls or allow unauthorized people into a residence hall.

Thefts can also occur in academic buildings. Faculty and staff should lock office doors whenever away-even if just for a minute. If you share a common workspace with others, secure valuables in a locked desk or cabinet. Do not leave valuables unattended-even if you're away for just a few minutes.

Sex Offense Forcible Fondling

NDSP is investigating a forcible fondling sex offense that happened between 8:30 p.m. and 8:50 p.m.on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 in the C1 Parking Lot. The offense was reported to NDSP on Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 14).

A Notre Dame student reported to NDSP that she was approached Tuesday night by a suspect who engaged her in conversation while she cleared snow from her car. The suspect stood close to her and touched her inappropriately.

The suspect was described as a male, possibly south Asian with dark complexion, in his late 20's, about 5'9", approximately 175 pounds, and was wearing a knit hat. The suspect spoke with a foreign accent.

The suspect was seen driving a vehicle and it was described to police as a newer model Mistsubishi, maroon in color, possibly with Illinois registration.

Robbery Reported on Bulla Road near Twyckenham

NDSP is investigating a robbery of a male Notre Dame student that occurred near the corner of Bulla Road and Twyckenham Drive (east side of campus) on Saturday, Feb. 10 at about 3:50 a.m. No weapon was displayed. The suspect took money and clothing from the student.

The student continued walking west bound on Bulla Road after the crime and stopped a NDSP patrol car to report that he had been robbed. The student reported to police that he was returning to campus by himself on foot when he was approached by two men in a teal green Chevrolet Suburban. The suspect used his vehicle to block the student's path, threatened to harm the student and demanded money from him. The suspects remained in the vehicle during the robbery. The suspects drove west from the scene on Bulla Road and then south on Leahy Drive. NDSP, city and county police searched the surrounding neighborhoods but did not locate the suspects.

Suspect 1 (driver) is described a male, white, approximately 18 years old, wearing a hat with a black brim and a black puffy winter jacket.
Suspect 2 (passenger) is described as male, white, wearing a white/gray hoodie.
