Existing, new, and students who are interested in joining the Notre Dame St. Mary's Gymnastics Club often ask the same questions. To help "clear the air" on some of those questions we are including a Gymnastics Club FAQ's page.

What is the ND-SMC Gymnastics Club?
NDU DomeOur gymnastics club is made up of your fellow ND and SMC students who have competed in gymnastics before and want to continue competing and those who for the first time want to learn and compete in gymnastics.

Who can join the club?
The club is open to all Notre Dame, St. Mary's, and Holy Cross undergrad and graduate students. Also, faculty and staff members are eligible to join.

How do join?
It's easy. Just contact on of the gymnastics club officers or show up to one of our practices. There are no tryouts or skill tests to pass. If you want to be a club member, you are in!

How often do you practice?
The club practices twice each week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from usually xxxpm until xxxxpm.

Where do you practice?
Gymnastics Michiana We practice at Gymnastics Michiana's facility located in Mishawaka. It is a terrific venue with a lot of equipment and excellent safety features. Full gymnastics apparatus are available to men and women alike including floor, pommel horse, still rings, vault, parallel bars, and high bar, for the men and balance beam, floor, uneven bars, vault for the women.

How do I get to Gymnastics Michiana?

How many competitions do you enter?
The gymnastics club typically enters 4 or 5 meets per year. Plus, anyone who qualifies for the Nationals will compete in that season ending event as well.

Does everyone compete?
Yes, all of our club members compete at our meets. Regardless of your skill level, you will be given an opportunity to compete.

Who do we compete against?
Our meets are usually with midwest located clubs such as Purdue, Miami of Ohio, Illinois, Eastern Michigan/Michigan, and Indiana.

Are there dues?
Yes, there are. They are ???$15.00 this school year???

What do the dues subsidize?
The dues, and other monies we can generate, are primarily used for travel, meet expenses, and uniform upkeep.

NAIGCWhat does NAIGC stand for?
It stands for the National Association of Intercollegiate Gymnastics Clubs of which we, and many dozens of other gymnastics clubs across the nation, are members.

What is the NAIGC?
The NAIGC is the nation's largest student run gymnastics organization. It is open to any affiliate of a participating school regardless of experience or current ability.

How long has this league been around?
The NAIGC was founded during the late 1980s.

What skill levels should I expect at NAIGC club meets?
There is an enormous range of skills both within the league and within the teams themselves. Some clubs are former varsity teams which just got cut, while others are clubs that are just starting and trying to get their feet wet. As for the individuals, some have never done gymnastics before while others have been doing it their entire lives. The Notre Dame St. Mary's Gymnastics Club has members at a wide variety of skill levels.

I don't have any experience. Is that okay?
No SkillDefinitely! We accept people of all ethnicities, of all walks of life, and most importantly of all gymnastics backgrounds. The NAIGC was founded on the idea of making gymnastics accessible and enjoyable to anyone who loves the sport. We are proud to say that we continue this tradition.

How do I qualify for Nationals?
You must be affiliated with a participating school and be in good standing. You must have competed in at least 1 event in at least 2 meets during the current season. That's it. There are no qualifying scores. We encourage participation.

Where are Nationals held?
The NAIGC National Gymnastics Tournament is held in a different location each year, hosted by one of the member schools. The 2011 Nationals will be held April 6th through April 9th in
Richmond, Virginia. Our host hotel is the Hilton Garden Inn in Richmond. The meet venue will be the Greater Richmond Convention Center
