Lakes & Facilities

St. Joseph's Lake

St. Joe's Lake is our on campus facility for sailing lessons, quick practices, and the annual Freshman Icebreaker Regatta. The original boat house at the east end of St. Joseph's Lake was built in 1888. Originally, the building was used for both pleasure and racing boats, with facilities for crews to train and study during the winter months. Today, we still base our fleet from this building.

Directions
  • The boathouse is located on the north side of campus, near the power plant, about a 5 minute walk north of the dome.

Diamond Lake

Just outside of Cassopolis, Michigan lies Diamond Lake. It is only a 40-minute drive north of campus, and it offers a larger lake, stronger winds, and generally better sailing. We store our boats at the Diamond Lake Yacht Club, a facility that we hope to build a strong relationship with over the coming years!

  • From campus, take Douglas or Angela east to IN-23.
  • Drive north on IN-23 into Michigan.
  • IN-23 turns in MI-62 at the Michigan border.
