about us
Who we are
The Sailing team is a club sport at Notre Dame that competes with other colleges throughout the Midwest and the United States. The team draws members from all parts of the country and continues to uphold a tradition of sailing excellence year after year. The team is continually a competitive member of the Midwest Collegiate Sailing Association (MCSA) as we compete against schools not only in our district, but nationally as well. Regattas take us from California to South Carolina, Florida, and everywhere in between. During the spring season, as many as fifteen members travel to many regattas across the Midwest each weekend.A little history
The Notre Dame Sailing team has existed since at least the early 1950's. Since that time, we have practiced on St. Joseph's Lake on campus and other lakes throughout the South Bend area.Who is eligible
The team is open to any Saint Mary's or Notre Dame student, whether they have sailing experience or not. The team practices in both the fall and spring, with the spring being significantly more competitive. This past season, our team practiced on St. Joseph Lake on Notre Dame's campus, but we are currently working to create a permanent sailing site on a larger lake. The team currently has approximately 40 active members. Our fleet
Our fleet consists of nine new 420's and four older FJ's. We also have three lasers to sail as well. The majority of our regattas are sailed on FJ's while an increasing number of regattas, including nationals and qualifiers are hosted in 420's.Contacting us
