Frequently Asked Questions
- When will the degree candidates receive information regarding May Commencement?
May degree candidates and August 2008 and January 2009 graduates were e-mailed or mailed information from the Office of the Registrar on February 27. This included information for cap & gown ordering, name and hometown verification of the diploma and program, Commencement Ceremony guest ticket order, Ceremony announcements, information concerning Commencement Weekend events, and links to information concerning on-campus housing for families and meal ticket orders. May degree candidates also received directions concerning completing a required senior survey.
- Do parents receive information?
Yes, by the second week of March, May degree candidate's parents/home addresses (and August and January graduate's home addresses) will be sent information from the Center for Continuing Education. The CCE (574-631-7640) manages the reserving of dorm rooms on campus for families and the selling of the weekend meal tickets.
- When should family members arrive?

- How many guest tickets does each graduate receive?
Undergraduate and Law students will be able to request up to four guest tickets for the Sunday 2:00 p.m. University Commencement Ceremony. However, only three tickets are guaranteed. Depending on the number of requests received, a fourth ticket may be available for those who have made that request. If we are unable to fill all fourth ticket requests, a ticket lottery will be held for the fourth ticket. Graduate School and Graduate Business students can request two guest tickets to the Sunday University Commencement Ceremony. The Graduate School holds a separate Commencement Ceremony on Saturday for the granting of degrees with no guest ticket limit. Graduate Business also conducts a separate diploma ceremony.
Ticket Policy.
- What happens if we have more family than University Commencement tickets?
The Sunday University Commencement Ceremony will be broadcast to classroom auditoriums in DeBartolo Hall. This building is near the Joyce Center.
Tickets are not required.
- Do small children need tickets to the University Commencement Ceremony?
Infants to two year old children do not need tickets, as long as they are not using their own seat.
- Do we need tickets for the Saturday Mass?
No. All guests are welcome to the Saturday evening Commencement Mass in the Joyce Center.
- My final grade point average changed my Latin Honors, will I receive a new diploma?
Diplomas are printed before a students final semester grades are posted in May. If your Latin Honors changed in the last semester before May graduation, a new diploma will be issued and mailed to you in late August.
- Can guests park on campus?
Parking is available on campus, mainly in the outer lots.
- What if I am not able to walk across campus?
The University does not offer shuttle service during commencement weekend. If a family member or guest can not easily walk across campus, please call Security about 5-10 minutes before needed, and they will send a golf cart to provide a ride (along with one other family member/person).
- Will my state issued disability hang tag be valid on campus?
Yes. Please make sure it is displayed properly, and access will be given to any of the handicapped parking spots.
