"The Butterfly Project" consists of entries exerpted from my long poem Jack's Beans: a Five-Year Diary. This is a poem of 365 pages, each page is a poem with five day-entries for five consecutive years (1950 to 1954), and each entry is itself a five-line poem. In addition to "The Butterfly Project," poems culled from the diary, some of them individual entries, some day pages, some (like "Butterfly") thematic sequences, have appeared in Brussels Sprout, Lynx, Pemmican, James White Review, New Digressions, New York Quarterly, Beloit Poetry Review, and Iowa Review. The long poem is available for publication. Also I am circulating a volume of selections: A Handful of Beans. I welcome queries from interested publishers: PO Box 223, Castleton, VT 05735, or call 802-468-2277. Meanwhile, I have had published this year, in January and March respectively, two volumes of poems: Waiting on Pentecost (Birch Brook Press, PO Box 81, Delhi, NY 13753), and Cow'sleap: A Nightbook, Fithian Press, PO Box 1525, Santa Barbara, CA 93102. These can, of course, be ordered from the publishers. I have enclosed a photo: this is what Jack looked like in 1950 or 51, with Laura snapping the shot.
