"Casavecchia" - Two summers ago I and others made the inevitable middle aged right of passage
- we rented a villa in Tuscany. Many
evenings were spent listening to cuckoos and talking and thinking about time
and the great wash of historical time all around us. I had and continue to be working on a series of poems meditative
of time and this is one of them.

"Puzzle" - I occasionally do a jigsaw puzzle to be prepared in case I
go to the madhouse one day. It IS
relaxing, I have to say. In the process
last year, I thought of a couple of lines that seem to be a base for making a
fresh start at the old cliche metaphor that X or Y or anything is "a real
puzzle." I also hint at a general
sense I have that all life and matter is one constant combustion and that
borders are false - say, the frontier between your skin and air. Puzzling concept.
