Judith Minty, author of Walking With the Bear: New and Selected Poems, says his poems offer: "Wonderful imagery and exciting leaps. Very Nice!" Denise Duhamel, author of The Star-Spangled Banner, says of Minnick: "His work is quiet without being dull, sincere without being sentimental. He has been able to weave his no-nonsense Midwestern-ness with colorful Miami imagery."
Of "The Busy Street" Duhamel writes: "Norman's search for identity is tinged with a sort of sad playfulness and poignancy. Just when the reader fears the poem will become predictable, he plays with the syntax--behind the moving bus becomes "...behind a bus, moving..." strengthening its mystery and power."
