Call for Papers

The 2002 Silicon Nanoelectronics Workshop will be held June 9-10, 2002, at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, Honolulu, HI. As usual, this workshop is a satellite conference of the VLSI Symposium and sponsored by the IEEE Electron Device Society. This is the seventh workshop in the annual series. Previous SNWs have been held in Honolulu and Kyoto, alternating as the VLSI Symposium moves between these sites.  Abstracts are due February 15, 2002 (details below).

The Hilton Hawaiian Village is located near the heart of the resort area of Waikiki Beach.. It is also near shopping and tourist attractions.

Papers are sought for this year's workshop on all aspects of silicon-based nanoelectronics. Areas of interest include:

  • Novel structures for sub-30 nm FETs, including vertical and double-gate devices
  • Quantum effects in Si nanodevices
  • Nanoscale device modeling
  • Processing for Si nanostructures, including nanoscale patterning
  • Junction and insulator technology for Si nanodevices
  • Nanoscale surface, interface, and heterostructure effects and devices
  • Si device scaling issues including doping fluctuations
  • Circuits for Si nanodevices
  • Optoelectronics using silicon nanostructures

Chair of this year's workshop is David K. Ferry of Arizona State University. The program committee is headed by David J. Frank of the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center.

    Invited Speakers

    Abstract Submission

Prospective authors are invited to submit a two-page abstract, in which the first page is textual and the second page contains illustrative figures. Abstracts must be submitted electronically using the link below in either PDF or MS Word format, and must be received  by Friday, February 15, 2002.  Each abstract must contain the authors' names, affiliations, addresses, and an email address for the first author.  Please try to keep the file size small, and avoid huge bitmapped figures if possible.  The Program Committee will evaluate Abstracts for technical content, originality and importance, and authors should be notified of the status of their submission by March 15, 2002.  Depending on the number and quality of submissions, some papers may be accepted for presentation in a poster session, in which case the authors will be asked to present a short oral summary of their work.

    SUBMIT ABSTRACT (not yet active)

A limited number of Late News Abstracts may be accepted up until Thursday, April 25, 2002.  These abstracts must be prepared as described above, and submitted in the same manner.  Such authors will be notified of the status of their submission by May 17, 2002.

Publication in IEEE Transactions on Nanotechnology

As in 2000, full papers for accepted abstracts will be published, but this time in a special issue of the new IEEE journal Transactions on Nanotechnology.  To be included in the special issue, manuscripts must be turned in on the first day of the workshop.  The manuscripts will be reviewed, and the final, corrected manuscripts will be due in mid-July.  Detailed information about manuscript preparation will be available at a later date.

    Registration Information

Registration should be done through the VLSI Symposium. A hotel registration form is also available.
