Domers among nation's best new engineering faculty

Of the eight people selected to receive the American Society of Engineering Education's Dow Outstanding New Faculty Award for 1998, one teaches at Notre Dame and another is an alumna.

Edward J. Maginn is an assistant professor of chemical engineering who joined the Notre Dame faculty in 1995. In 1997 he received the National Science Foundation's Faculty Early Career Development Award. Last year he was honored as the chemical engineering department's Teacher of the Year.

The other 1998 Dow honoree with a Notre Dame connection is Karlene A. Kosanovich, a chemical engineering professor at the University of South Carolina. She earned both her master's (1983) and doctoral (1986) degrees in chemical engineering from Notre Dame.
