Audience:
- Faculty, staff and affiliates in Notre Dame study abroad locations in Europe: London, Dublin, Toledo, Athens, Angers, Rome
Purpose:
- To discuss the theories of Global Citizenship and its varied interpretations in higher education
- To discuss the practical applications on our work with Notre Dame students in Europe and from campus.
Elements of the roundtable days combining theoretical and practical:
- Discuss the emphasis in American higher education toward developing global citizens, its philosophical foundations and practical iterations
- Share with members of the Europe ND faculty/staff and affiliates in study abroad programs the conversations happening on our home campus regarding efforts to define global citizenship at Notre Dame and outline action steps toward helping our students develop skills for Global Citizenship
- Learn from on-site staff and faculty the actions and activities already in place that support student skills development.
- Learn from local (European) practitioners and theorists of Global Citizenship
- Discuss next steps toward defining and implementing strategies for developing skills for students both on campus and in Europe.
- Provide an opportunity for the Europe-based faculty, staff and affiliates to meet, discuss and share practices, efforts, challenges and successes
