Products and Services
As the commercial brand manager of the University's indicia, the Licensing Department manages the commercialization of the various identities of the University. Chief among those identities for commercial purposes are athletics, academics and religious. When analyzing the viability of any such identity commercialization, the Licensing Department balances the appropriate levels of profit, promotion and protection.
An entity authorized to use the University's marks on its products or in connection with its services will participate under the direction of the Licensing Department in one or more of the following programs based primarily on the intended channel of distribution of its products:
- National License affords the licensee the opportunity to use the University's marks and sell University branded products to specifically designated retail channels throughout the United States. Applications for this national license are processed by the University's agent, The Collegiate Licensing Company (Atlanta, GA). All National License requests are considered by the University's Licensing Committee. The Committee meets on a monthly basis.
- Campus License offers the licensee the opportunity to use the University's marks and sells its goods exclusively to University retail outlets, including the Hammes Notre Dame Bookstore. Companies requesting a Campus License are required to establish a "vendor" relationship with the Follett Higher Education Group. Follett is the designated management company for on-campus retail store operations. Applications for this national license are processed by the University's agent, The Collegiate Licensing Company (Atlanta, GA).
- University/ Student Vendor License is granted to entities that produce products utilizing the University's marks for internal consumption by University departments or student groups. Companies applying for a University/Student Vendor License must contact the Licensing Office.
- Alumni License affords Companies the opportunity to produce a product bearing the indicia of the University's Alumni Association and/or the name of a specifically recognized Notre Dame Alumni Club. Requests for an Alumni License should be directed to the Notre Dame Alumni Association.
