A law degree from the University of Notre Dame provides an open door into all sectors of legal employment:

Private Law Firms
Over 60 percent of Notre Dame graduates begin their legal careers in the private sector, in firms ranging from the world's largest to small boutique specialty firms. A list of Notre Dame alumni working in law firms across the country reads like a list of "Who's Who" of private practice.

Public Sector
In addition to private practice, many graduates choose to embark on careers in the public sector. These positions include work as prosecutors for the United States Department of Justice and other capacities at the municipal, state and federal levels of government.

Public Interest
Building on the strong Notre Dame tradition of social justice and assistance for the poor, a large number of our graduates each year choose to work for legal service agencies or other organizations committed to service.

Judicial Clerkships
A significant number of Notre Dame graduates serve one or two years in a judicial clerkship. Indeed, our graduates have clerked for nearly every federal circuit court and district court in the country, as well as the highest courts in each state. Of particular note are Notre Dame graduates who have had the distinct honor to clerk for the U.S. Supreme Court, most recently for Justices Rehnquist, Scalia, and Thomas.

Business. Either directly from law school or after a few years of private practice, many Notre Dame graduates work for major accounting firms or as in-house counsel for corporations across the country.

Other
Other graduates work in the military, accept academic positions or enter advanced degree programs.
