Transfer
Applicants
Admission
into Notre Dame Law School as a transfer student is
selective and is based upon the applicant's prelaw qualifications
and the applicant's academic record at the law school
from which transfer is requested. Notre Dame will accept
a maximum of 30 semester hours of credit earned at another
law school.
To
be eligible for consideration for admission as a transfer
student, an applicant must have completed one year of
study at a school that is both approved by the American
Bar Association and a member of the Association of American
Law Schools. Transfer applicants are not required to
subscribe to the Law School Data Assembly Service (LSDAS).
However, transfer applicants are required to submit
the following supporting documentation:
-
an official transcript from the institution that granted
the baccalaureate degree
-
an
official transcript reflecting all first-year law
courses and grades
-
a
brief statement indicating the reason(s) for desiring
to transfer
-
two
letters of recommendation, one of which is from a
law professor who has taught the applicant in class
-
a
photocopy of the LSDAS Report from the law school
the applicant currently attends;
-
a
dean's letter certifying good standing and class rank
-
a
non-refundable application fee of $60
Transfer
applicants should have a completed application
on
file with the Admissions Office no later than July
1 (including the above items).
Law
Journal Write-on Competition: Transfer applicants
are
eligible to participate in the Notre Dame law journals
write-on competition. Transfer applicants who wish
to
participate in this competition should request an information
packet from the Director of Student Services, Peter
Horvath no later than
May 1. It is important to note
that admission decisions and selection decisions for
a law journal are made independently and at different
times during the summer.
Transient
Applicants (Visiting Student Status)
A student who is enrolled and in good standing at another
accredited law school may apply as a visiting student
at Notre Dame Law School for up to one academic year.
It is important to note that a transient student is
one who plans to transfer credits earned at Notre Dame
to the home law school.
Transient
students are required to submit the following.
-
a brief statement indicating the reason(s) for seeking
admission as a transient student
-
a
letter from the dean's office of the home school granting
approval for the student to enroll at Notre Dame Law
School as a transient/visiting student
