TOEFL requirements
Notre Dame Law School welcomes applications
from citizens of other countries. In addition to
the application procedures
established for U.S. citizens or permanent residents,
international applicants whose first language is
not English must take the Test of English as a Foreign
Language
(TOEFL). Applicants must attain a minimum score of
250 on the computer-based TOEFL with minimum scores
of 25
in each of the three sections (listening, structure/writing,
and reading), at least 100 points on the internet-based
TOEFL (IBT) with minimum scores of 25 in each section,
or at least 600 points on the paper-based TOEFL with
minimum
scores of 60 in each section. Non-native English
speakers who have been awarded a baccalaureate or
graduate degree
from a U.S. university are exempted from the TOEFL
requirement. The University of Notre Dame institution
code is 1841.
LSAC JD Credential Assembly Service (CAS)
Notre Dame Law School requires that
foreign transcripts be submitted through the LSAC
JD Credential Assembly
Service.
Any postsecondary work outside the
U.S. (including its territories) or Canada must
use this service for the evaluation of foreign
transcripts. The one exception to this requirement
is the foreign work completed through a study
abroad, consortium, or exchange program sponsored by
a U.S. or Canadian institution, and the work is clearly
indicated as such on the home campus transcript. The Credential Assemby Service is included in the LSDAS subscription fee.
A Foreign Credential Evaluation will be completed by
the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and
Admissions Officers (AACRAO), which will be incorporated
into your LSDAS report. If we determine that you need
to submit a TOEFL score, you must contact the Educational
Testing Service (ETS) and request that your TOEFL score
be sent to LSAC. LSAC’s TOEFL code for the JD
Credential Assembly Service is 0058. Your score will
be included in the Foreign Credential Evaluation document
that will be included in your LSDAS law school report.
To use the JD CAS, log in to your online account
and follow the instructions for registering for the
service. Be sure to print out a Transcript Request
Form for each institution and send it promptly to
them. More time is usually required to receive foreign
transcripts.
Questions about the JD Credential Assembly Service
can be directed to LSAC at 215.968.1001, or LSACINFO@LSAC.org.
Financing Law School
International
applicants seeking admission to Notre Dame Law School
should be aware of the financial resources required
to attend the program for three years. The expected
annual costs for tuition, fees, and living expenses
for a non-U.S. citizen is approximately $50,000.
Though
international applicants will be considered for fellowship
and grant assistance, such aid typically only covers
a portion of tuition and does not cover living expenses.
The Law School does not provide any teaching assistantships
or tuition waivers for citizens of other countries.
