Comments from students participating in GALILEE

"My experience with GALILEE cemented my desire to enter into public service law. We witnessed an amazing variety of ways in which a lawyer can be of service. The visits that left the strongest impression on me were the Juvenile Division of Brooklyn Legal Aid, and the Special Prosecutor for Narcotics for New York. Although the daily practice of each the attorneys at these two places were very distinct, I walked away from each place inspired. GALILEE opened my eyes to the workings of the justice system-I actually sat next to a judge in family court, who explained her decisions to me while she waited for the next case on her docket to begin! The entire program has enriched my law school life in a way that no classroom experience could and instilled me with a drive to serve." Ryan O'Connor, Class of 2005

"GALILEE proved to be an incredibly enlightening experience. We were able to learn that working in public interest didn't preclude working in a large firm. For example, we met with the head of the pro-bono department at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher, & Flom LLP. It was very enlightening and encouraging to learn that a top firm in New York could be so devoted to doing pro bono work. Through GALILEE we had the opportunity to see how everything we had learned in the classroom all semester played out in real life." Rebecca Parrott, Class of 2005
