Fellowship Aid from NDLSApply NowRequest Info

Once the Admissions Committee makes the decision to admit a candidate, the candidate then receives consideration for fellowship aid from the Law School. In recent years, fellowship aid has been awarded to approximately 75 percent of entering classes. Details regarding fellowship aid follow:

Fellowship Types: Fellowship assistance is provided to entering students on the basis of academic promise and/or on the basis of significant financial need. Awards do not need to be repaid, nor do they have a work requirement associated with them.

Academic Promise Fellowships: Every admitted candidate receives consideration for fellowship aid based on academic promise, as an application is not required.

Need-based Fellowship Aid: Consideration for need-based fellowship aid is given only to those admitted candidates who completed and submitted the optional financial aid form by February 1.

Notification of Fellowship Aid: If the Law School can provide fellowship aid, this will be communicated in the letter of acceptance. The letter of acceptance also will indicate that the award is renewable contingent upon good academic standing.

Fellowship Amounts: Fellowships typically range between $4,000 and $25,000 per year.
Renewal of Fellowship Aid: Both types of fellowship aid will be renewed for years two and three at the Law School. The only renewal criterion is good academic standing (2.0 on a 4.0 scale) at the end of each academic year.

Availability of Additional/New Fellowship Aid: The Law School’s practice is to provide fellowship aid to students upon their entrance to the Law School and to renew this aid in subsequent years. With the exception of several specialty fellowship awards, the Law School does not award new or additional fellowship funds to upper-level law students. 2L and 3L students have opportunities to finance their legal education through employment on campus.
