Sarah Borden (2008-09 Myster Fellow)

The 2008-09 Myser Fellow, Sarah Borden, received her B.A. in philosophy from Wheaton College in 1995, her M.A. in philosophy from Fordham University in 1998, and her Ph.D. in philosophy from Fordham University in 2001.  In 2001, she joined the faculty of Wheaton College, where she is an associate professor.

Professor Borden’s impressive scholarly achievements in such a short time period, along with her excellent record of teaching, make her the ideal recipient of the Myser Fellowship.  Professor Borden is the author of Edith Stein in the series of Outstanding Christian Thinkers (London: Continuum Publishers, 2003).

While at the Center, Professor Borden plans to complete a manuscript contending that the Aristotelian tradition, despite its seeming incompatibility with feminism, can offer positive resources to the feminist debate.  Professor Borden wants to focus on basic Aristotelian principles and their import for our understanding of sex and gender without falling into Aristotle’s denigration of women, and how we can adopt these principles to respond to some of the challenges and problems facing modern feminist theory.
