In spite of, or maybe because of the economy
and technological advances occurring today, engineering is the second
largest profession in the United States. Why? Because regardless of any
other employment statistics, companies are always looking for entry-level
technical and engineering employees, particularly in IT and biomedical
fields, who bring fresh ideas and a good work ethic to the table.
Starting pay for an engineer with a bachelor's degree averages $49,000
but may be as high as $55,000, depending on your area of expertise. Companies
who have hired Notre Dame graduates include: AT&T, Boeing, Compaq,
General Electric, GM, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Intel, Lockheed Martin, Motorola,
Northrop Grumman, and Zimmer.
Many of our graduates experience rewarding careers in industry. Some
enjoy success in graduate school. Others have gone on to success in medicine,
business, and law. No matter what your ultimate career goal, an undergraduate
foundation in engineering will be a valuable asset that will enable
you to bring something valuable to any profession. |
