Admission to the Engineering
Honors Program (EHP) is only by invitation to students of the highest caliber who have
been admitted to the University and have expressed an interest in engineering.
The EHP provides students with special opportunities for engineering
research, cultural enrichment, and social leadership.
First-year EHP students take special honors sections of humanities and
engineering courses. And, as early as the sophomore year, students may
begin work on the independent research project required of all honors
students.
Other activities include technical seminars -- covering topics such as
bioengineering, energy, environmental sciences and engineering, high-performance
computing, and nanotechnology; field trips -- ranging from museum tours
in Chicago to laboratory tours of industry and research partners; and
opportunities to interact individually with visiting scholars.
Throughout the program an EHP adviser will work closely with each honors
student to help prepare him or her for the next step, including admission
to graduate school or the submission of applications for graduate fellowships
and other scholarship programs, such as Rhodes and Marshall.
Finally, successful completion of the program will be indicated on student
transcripts, all permanent records, and the commencement program.
