  Display clocks and memory chips account for 5% of domestic energy consumption and release 18 million tons of carbon emissions annually.

Areas of Research

There are five main areas of energy research being pursued at the University of Notre Dame. The number of faculty pursuing this research has increased significantly over the past year. Many of the additions have been in the College of Arts and Letters and the Mendoza College of Business. In 2007 alone, more than $6.7 million was awarded by external sponsors for energy-related projects.
