Student’s Union, Queen’s University Belfast.

Belfast, Ireland

Marketing Internship in the Communications and Development Office.

Intern: Conor J. Murphy, Government 2002 (Conor.J.Murphy.185@nd.edu)

Length: June 18-July 18

Job Description: Raising money and organizing a gala dinner and exhibition for the charity, Project Children, which is an organization that is greatly involved with the Queens community. This internship offers practical marketing experience and the opportunity to learn a lot about Irish history and politics.

The Work Environment is relatively relaxed. The business day generally starts at 9:30 and ends at 4pm unless you are working for a consulting or PR firm, in which case, the day can start at 7am and end at 9 pm. There is a relaxed pace of work and punctuality can be flexible.

The city of Belfast is a thriving European city. You an walk everywhere, and work, the store, pubs, and laundry facilities are all 10-15 minutes from the provided housing. The people were friendly and went out of their way to help. There is a generally positive attitude towards Americans. Pub life is the center of Ireland. People meet for drinks, food and conversation. The average temperature is from 75-85 degrees so few places have air conditioning. I stays light until 11pm and the weather is mild so no more than a light rain jacket is necessary. There is little petty crime, and interns in last years have always felt safe.

Housing: Provided with the internship and is free.

"This summer was an unbelievable one. I learned a tremendous amount and met a number of great people."

-Conor J. Murphy
