Areas of Responsibility
Utility Production creates the following types of energy: steam (for heating and process applications), chilled water (for cooling), electricity, domestic cold water (for potable and non-potable uses), domestic cold soft water, domestic hot soft water, compressed air, heating, ventilating and air conditioning controls (including the Central Building Automation System).
Utility Distribution circulates the various forms of energy to the users. Steam supply and condensate return piping is distributed through a campus wide tunnel system, chilled water is distributed through a direct buried piping system and electricity is distributed through a system of vaults and underground concrete encased duct banks.
Engineering Services provides mechanical, electrical and environmental engineering talent as well as project management experience to many entities on campus. For example, the Office of the University Architect utilizes these services in completing technical reviews and in developing capital building project recommendations.
