Drug Companies Fund Aids Conference
In April,
eight pharmaceutical companies (Merck, Novartis, Bristol
Myers Squibb, Wyeth, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, Abbott and Eli
Lilly) funded
a conference that brought religious leaders, health care workers,
government officials and other activists together at Notre Dame to
search for ways to bring AIDS medicines to the poor. The conference
was organized by Father Oliver Williams, the director of Notre
Dame's Center for Ethics and Religious Values in Business.
