Dot-bombs. Lay-offs. We've all heard the news about the technology sector, and felt the pain in our underperforming portfolios. However, there is still some energy left in Silicon Valley and it's coming from a group of Notre Dame alumni. In June, nearly 100 ND alumni, ranging from entrepreneurs to engineers gathered in Redwood Shores, California to participate in the first ND Technology Forum. In addition to networking with each other, forum attendees gathered to listen to an impressive panel of ND grads, including Tom Mendoza (ND '73), president of Network Appliance; Celeste Ford (ND '78), founder and CEO of Stellar Solutions and Larry Augustin (ND '84), CEO and president of VA Linux. Amy Guarino (ND '83), director of channel sales at Alter Ego Networks, teamed up with John Bonello ('88) who had begun a similar group of alumni focused around technology issues in the Washington, D.C. area. Guarino then contacted Lee Svete, director of ND's Career Center, and Notre Dame Business magazine's online list of more than 100 alumni in high-tech industries. For more information, visit www.sfndtech.com for the San Francisco forum or www.ndtechforum.org for the DC forum. To add your name to the high-tech industries list, visit www.nd.edu/~ndbizmag.
