New Courses Benefit from PwC Grant

A $100,000 grant from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), has assisted the development of six cutting-edge new courses, enhanced nine existing courses and provided training for faculty in e-commerce-related issues. New courses include:

  • e-Commerce and Beyond explores cutting-edge business trends and highlights experts at companies such as Arthur Andersen, Accenture and TeraBeam Networks. For a list of the 10 speakers and their biographies, click here.
  • Data Warehousing & Mining teaches students to design data warehousing systems and how to use them in the most efficient way.
  • Java Programming. Java allows companies to seamlessly integrate the Internet with their information systems.
  • MIS Project. Students work in teams on MIS design and implementation projects for clients.
  • Industrial Organization examines the structure of industries - oligopolies, mergers, market structure - and a firm's "strategic commitments" and policy concerns, including pricing, advertising and R & D.
  • Selling e-business Solutions. After researching the e-business needs of specific firms in different industries, students are exposed to the challenges of selling a full array of e-business applications as well as the related hardware and software a firm might need for managing sales and supply chain(s).

"I am so proud of what our faculty has accomplished with the PwC grant - and all within the last one year," said Dean Carolyn Woo. "This is a testament to our faculty's creativity and willingness to try new things."

"PwC's investment in our e-commerce curriculum development reflects the firm's commitment to leading-edge business practices.
