Burke Named Associate
Dean and Director of Executive Education
Leo
Burke, a recognized leader in executive education, was named Associate
Dean and Director of Executive Programs in December. Burke (ND '70)
comes to ND from Motorola University, where he served as dean of the
College of Leadership and Transcultural Studies and as Director of Strategy.
He was recognized with the President's Award, Motorola's highest honor
in executive education.
"At
Motorola University, Leo helped develop the most extensive and successful
corporate executive education enterprise in the world," said Dean Carolyn
Woo. "He pioneered the use of quality measurement techniques to gauge
the impact of distance learning programs."
"He
has a great deal of experience running executive education programs
for other corporations, and is a leader in the use of e-learning tools
and technologies."
"What
Leo brings is access to the critical drivers for success in executive
education. These include (1) contacts in a global network of major players
in continuing education (select business schools, corporate universities,
consulting firms, e-learning firms and consortia of multinationals),
(2) expertise in e-learning and technology-based global delivery and
(3) curriculum design in knowledge management, creativity, transcultural
leadership and value-added networks."
Values-based
education is a strength of Notre Dame's that Burke would like to tap
further for executive education. "ND's legacy in ethical studies has
helped define the University's world-class reputation," said Burke.
"Imagine what could be accomplished if the spirit and values of the
University were implemented in the world of business." Given the demand
for executive education, Burke says, the opportunity to do this through
the Mendoza College has never been better.
