INTRO TO ALGEBRAIC GEOMETRY -II (MATH 80620)

CLASS TIME:   Pasquerilla Center 105 on MW from 9:00 am – 10:20 am..

 

TEXTBOOK: R. Hartshorne – Algebraic Geometry.

 

PREREQUISITES: Some exposure to algebra, such as rings and modules, and some knowledge of algebraic varieties.

                                                                                   

SYLLABUS: We will cover the basic theory of curves and surfaces (Chapters IV and V of the textbook). Topics include: intersection theory and the Riemann-Roch theorem, classification of curves and surfaces, with special attention to elliptic curves and to rational surfaces, ruled surfaces, K3 surfaces, and abelian surfaces.                                                                                                              

 

HOMEWORK: There will be regular homework to be posted on this page.

 

GRADING: The grade will loosely be based on homework and presence.

 

OFFICE HOUR: Drop by my office or schedule an appointment.
