Faculty Project Fund Winners

Eileen Hunt-Botting (Political Science) received a grant to collaborate with two colleagues from Indiana University-Bloomington, Aurelian Craiutu and Jeff Isaacs, on a conference titled" Women, Power, and Political Theory: Rethinking the European Canon," scheduled for May 2005.

Carlos Jerez-Farran (Spanish, Romance Languages) received a grant to collaborate with Char Prieto (Valparaiso University) on a research project focusing on "Franco's Mass Graves." Their work on the era of the Spanish Civil War will result in a symposium, an edited collection, and additional publications in order to communicate this history to a wider public.

Tony Messina (Political Science) received a grant to collaborate with Gallya Lahav of SUNY at Stony Brook. They are currently working on a project titled "The Europeanization of Immigration Policy. Funding from the Nanovic Institute will enable Professor Lahav to visit Notre Dame once each semester during 2004-2005. She is slated to make a guest appearance in Professor Messina's Fall class, "Building the European Union" (enrollment: 80).

Lenny Moss (Philosophy) received a grant to collaborate with Mathias Gutmann of the University of Marburg in Germany to developing a multi-disciplinary,international conference on "Philosophical Anthropology Reviewed and Renewed: History, Evidence, Synthesis, and Normative Implications," keynote addresses by Charles Taylor on "Philosophical
Anthropology: Beginning with Herder. . . " and Richard Schacht on
"Kant, Nietzsche and 'der Mensch': The Idea and Project of a
Philosophical Anthropology." May 6-9, 2005.

Colleen Ryan-Scheutz (Italian, Romance Languages) received a grant to support her work with Professor Nicoletta Marini-Maio of the University of Pennsylvania in completing an edited collection titled "Set the Stage! Italian Through Theater." Several other distinguished scholars are contributing to the volume.
